Saxophone II Advanced Repair Techniques: A 4-Day Intensive In-Person Learning Experience July 13th-16th, 2026

This course is designed for experienced woodwind technicians looking to expand their knowledge and refine their skills in advanced saxophone repair and customization. Participants should already have a strong foundation in basic saxophone servicing and padding, OR have taken our Basics Done Right for Saxophone Course or equivalent.
If you’re already familiar with the basics of saxophone repair but are seeking to bring your skills to the next level, then this course is for you! This in-person, hands-on, action-packed course builds upon foundational knowledge at the Sax ProShop in beautiful Wilmington, NC!
Attendance is limited to ensure that participants have ample 1-on-1 instructor time.
Participants will get insight into how we approach pro-level repairs so they can satisfy their most demanding customers with nuance, tight tolerances, excellent action, and improved ergonomics.
In this course, we will be covering:
-Diagnosing and inspecting
-Neck Receiver/Tenon fitting
-Keywork Modifications
-Advanced Key Fitting and Mechanical Restoration
-Dry Fitting for ergonomics and proper pad cup geometry
-Synthetic key materials and applications
-Pad selection and installation
-Set up tips and tricks
Work hard during the day with the Sax ProShop technicians, and enjoy beautiful downtown Wilmington, NC in the evenings!
Participants should bring a alto or tenor saxophone of their choice and something to take notes (computer or notebook), something to take photos (phone or camera), a good attitude, and willingness to learn!
All participants are eligible to purchase tools and instrument repair supplies at a reduced cost.
Pre-requisites: Participants should have prior experience in saxophone repair and be familiar with basic dent work, soldering, key fitting, padding, and set-up, or have already taken ProShop courses like Basics Done Right or individual courses.

Housing: We are able to offer housing in a historic downtown home at a reduced rate through our partner: Wilmington Vacation Homes
Transportation: Transportation to and from the airport is available by Uber and Taxi
All course lectures and materials will be given in person. Instructional portions of the class can be recorded so students can view them after the course. We will also be filming or taking pictures during instruction for future course promotion. This course is eligible for 2.8 CEUs.
