The Ultimate Woodwind Work Fixture is a revolutionary approach to work fixtures and jigs, with horizontal and vertical orientations, many rotation options, movable locking shuttles, and attachments that will accept every woodwind instrument from piccolo to double reeds to baritone saxophone!

We are confident that our Ultimate Woodwind Work Fixture offers the best in versatility, access, security, ease of use, and adjustability for the repair technician. It was inspired by our late friend Carl Votaw, who changed the band instrument repair industry with well-designed tools like his saxophone repair stand. The Ultimate Woodwind Work Fixture is a revolutionary approach to work fixtures and jigs, with horizontal and vertical orientations, many rotation options, movable locking shuttles, and attachments that will accept every woodwind instrument from piccolo to double reeds to baritone saxophone.

When we started designing the jig, we wanted to take into account every aspect of good woodwind instrument holding and improve upon it exponentially. Anyone that has owned an instrument holding jig knows that these tools can experience wear at the point of rotation, where eventual failure can occur. The Ultimate Woodwind Work Fixture was designed to experience very little wear at every contact point:

We use durable delrin plates in the housing of the base, that act as a wear surface against the aircraft grade aluminum frame. This allows you to smoothly slide the jig from horizontal to vertical positions. We also took into account the wear that occurs at the point of rotation. We incorporated a stainless steel shaft for the connection between the base bracket and the main instrument holding bracket. This steel shaft is housed inside a bronze sleeve in order to achieve smooth action and lubricity. If the bronze sleeve wears, it is an easily obtainable and inexpensive replacement part. This is a major improvement over Carl Votaw's original design, because it allows the technician to simply replace a worn part on the jig themselves (if necessary) instead of having to ship it back to MusicMedic for service.

Features:

-Secure Instrument Holding:

The Ultimate Woodwind Work Fixture comes with 4 moveable locking shuttles that can be mounted anywhere desired on the aerospace grade aluminum frame. This gives the repair technician many options to position the instrument directly in front, extended outward, over the top, or off to either side of the fixture. The shuttles are secured with knobs you can tighten to securely hold them in place. One of the shuttles have Centers held in with an o-ring for holding smaller instruments like flute, clarinet and oboe. There is also a soprano sax Center with a special groove to accommodate the cord of a leak-light passing through, to allow the technician to insert a leak-light from the neck end.

-Maximum Adjustability:

The Triple-Locking Scissor Stanchion (TLSS) utilizes a unique pin locking system that gives you the freedom to mount instruments up to 6 inches away from the main instrument holding bracket of the Work Fixture, leaving you with plenty of clearance for the instrument in the jig, even on baritone saxophone. The TLSS also has a ratcheting tension adjuster that gives you a satisfying click so you know that the instrument is solidly secured in place. Removing the instrument is simple and fast with the release knob on the tension adjuster. If you need further adjustability, you can also rotate the entire head of the TLSS to face north, east, south, or west.

The Sprocket and stainless steel pin system holds the main instrument bracket exactly in place. We designed the pins so they cannot fall out and get lost. The heads of the pins glow in the dark in case you need to see them while you’re padding in a dark room. The steel screws that hold the bracket together give the technician the option of keeping commonly used tools close by with a simple magnet. The Sprocket handle is also a bottle opener, for when the day's work is done!

-Maximum Rigidity:

The Ultimate Work Fixture utilizes a round base plate that mounts directly to the work bench with either 4 lag screws or 4 bolts and nuts (hardware included). If desired, it can also be mounted to a wall. Once mounted, the entire mechanism can rotate with an exact amount of resistance so the operator maintains control at all times, and when the desired position is achieved, locks down securely. The rigidity of the fixture makes it ideal for padding, but has many other practical uses like ragging, playing condition work, assembly and disassembly, light soldering, light dent work, tone hole filing and general adjustments.

-Unprecedented Versatility:

The Ultimate Work Fixture will hold all sizes of woodwind instruments from piccolo to baritone saxophone! Instruments can be held and rotated 360 degrees in both horizontal and vertical positions to allow unlimited access to key work. This maximizes the versatility for the technician. You can easily switch the position of the instrument from horizontal to vertical to perform adjustments on any size work piece from any angle. Because the jig can be positioned vertically, it will also save valuable bench space when not in use. The Instrument Bracket can also be quickly removed from the base for storage or for placing in a vise.
