Participants in this course should already have a strong foundation in basic flute servicing and padding OR have taken our Basics Done Right for Flute Course or equivalent.
Here are some of the topics we will cover:
-Cutting, seating, and leveling open-hole pads for optimal response and airtight seal
-Tenon fitting techniques for seamless body assembly and mechanical integrity

-Pulling, replacing, and fitting knock pins, a critical component of long-term key alignment
-Key fitting and restoration methods for reducing lost motion and ensuring smooth action
-Exploration of engineered and synthetic pads to modernize and customize flute performance
Advanced Tools will be available for participants to try, but those wishing to bring or use their own advanced tools will need to purchase their own. Tools from suppliers can often be difficult to procure so leave plenty of time to order tools (at least 8 weeks) before arriving for the course.
Participants will need the basic set of tools required to participate in the course before the first day of the course. See Tool Block Below. Participants should also have an open or closed hole flute of their choice to work on with the class during the course. All participants are eligible to purchase tools, repair kits, and instrument repair supplies at a reduced cost.
This fall our flute professor Keren Barr of North Georgia Band will go over all of these great resources this course has to offer! Keren is a professional flute technician and owner of North Georgia Band Instrument Service. She is also a Muramatsu and Straubinger certified flute technician, training with Paul Rabinov and David Straubinger and has also been an active member of NAPBIRT since 2004.
